Strengthening University–Industry Collaboration for a Future-Ready Malaysia
Universiti Malaya (UM) and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturing (FMM) have formalised their commitment to deepen university–industry collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 13, 2026, at Universiti Malaya.
The MoU was signed by Professor Ir. Dr. Kaharudin bin Dimyati, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Universiti Malaya, and Mr. Jacob Lee Chor Kok, President of FMM, in the presence of UM Centres of Excellence (COEs) leadership, FMM Deputy President, Vice Presidents and Council Members.
The partnership aims to strengthen collaboration in research and innovation, talent development, knowledge exchange and industry-relevant initiatives, creating greater opportunities to translate research and expertise into practical solutions for industry.
The programme also included a visit to UM’s Faculty of Engineering and selected research laboratories, providing FMM with insights into UM’s research capabilities, facilities and potential areas for closer industry engagement.
Through this collaboration, UM and FMM look forward to building stronger bridges between academia and industry, supporting industry-ready talent and contributing to a more innovative, resilient and competitive Malaysian manufacturing sector.
