WHO CAN JOIN?

Any company, partnership, or sole proprietorship incorporated in Malaysia and engaged in manufacturing or services is eligible to join FMM as a member. There are three (3) types of membership:

Ordinary Membership

Ordinary membership is for companies engaged in manufacturing activities. The required supporting documents are as follows:

Certificate incorporated.
Latest Form 13 or Section 28 if any
Latest Form 24 or Section 78
Latest Form 49 or Section 58
Latest Section 68 (Latest annual return)
Business license from local council
Manufacturing license if any

Note: A newly incorporated company may submit Section 14 as a replacement for Sections 78, 58, and 68.

The following business categories may be admitted as Ordinary Members if they meet the required criteria.

1 Direct manufacturing
  • Carrying out a manufacturing activity; AND
  • Own the product or brand name; OR
  • It is a contract manufacturer.
  • Possess business license issued by local authorities to carry out business activity.
2 Repackaging with value-add
  • Own the brand name; AND
  • Engaged in some manufacturing process involving either a technique or enrichment by adding further ingredients or a mix.
3 Holding companies with subsidiaries involved in manufacturing
  • With subsidiaries carrying our manufacturing activity; AND
  • Own the product or brand name; OR
  • With subsidiaries which are contract manufacturers
4 Companies which have Outsourced production
  • Contract out its manufacturing activity, whether locally or overseas; AND
  • Own the product or brand name
5 System Integrators and software developers
  • Developing new software solution; OR
  • Designing and fabrication of own unique system through integration or available solutions for manufacturing.
6 Representative Offices or Overseas Headquarters of manufacturers
  • Owned by manufacturing principal with own product and/or brand name (known by principal's brand name);
  • Services that particular product or brand name or related products; AND
  • Providing after sales services for their principal's products or related products.
  • International Procurement Centre/ Principal Hubs.
7 Service Providers providing direct and integral service to manufacturing activities
  • Servicing manufacturing concern in one or more of the following areas; R&D, design, engineering services, marketing, maintenance & repair, installation, fabrication, and packaging; AND
  • Could also be servicing associated or subsidiary companies such as International Procurement Centre.

Affiliate Membership

Affiliate membership is for companies providing services. The required supporting documents are as follows:

Certificate incorporated.
Latest Form 13 or Section 28 if any
Latest Form 24 or Section 78
Latest Form 49 or Section 58
Latest Section 68 (Latest annual return)
Business license from local council

Association Membership

Industry associations in Malaysia are eligible if at least 75% of their members are direct members of FMM. For more information, please contact our secretariat at membership@fmm.org.my

1. What is Ordinary membership? +
Ordinary membership is for companies engaged in manufacturing in Malaysia and holding a valid business license from the local council or a manufacturing license from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).
2. What is Affiliate membership?
Affiliate membership is for companies engaged in services sector such as education, logistics, banking, insurance, IT solutions, trading, consulting, legal firms, wholesale, or representative offices.
3. What is the difference between Ordinary Membership and Affiliate Membership? +
Ordinary and Affiliate members enjoy all member privileges, except that Affiliate members are not entitled to vote at any general meeting; stand for election to any position; be counted in the quorum for a general meeting; request or participate in a secret ballot; or make a requisition for a general meeting.
4. What is the structure of the FMM annual subscription fee? +
For Ordinary membership, the annual subscription fee is based on the company's latest annual return, ranging from a minimum of RM900 to a maximum of RM6,000. For Affiliate membership, the annual subscription fee is fixed at RM2,600.
5. Sole Proprietor or Partnership can register as a member of FMM? +
Can. Please refer Question #1 and #2 to determine the type of membership.
6. My company terminated its FMM membership a few years ago and has now decided to re-apply for membership. +
The company may submit a new membership application, provided that any outstanding fees are settled first.
7. Who should I nominate as the company's authorised representative? +
The company's authorised representative is the person allowed to attend FMM Annual General Meetings on behalf of the company.
8. What are the supporting documents need to be provided to FMM to apply as member? +
Required documents for membership include Certificate of Incorporation, Section 78 (Form 24), Section 58 (Form 49), Section 68 (Latest Annual Return), and a business or manufacturing license. All documents must be duly certified by the company secretary or management, or digitally certified by Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM)
9. My company has a manufacturing plant but has not yet obtained a business or manufacturing license from MITI. Is my company eligible to apply for Ordinary membership? +
The company may apply for Affiliate membership initially. Once the business or manufacturing license is approved, the membership can be converted to Ordinary membership. Please forward the business license and latest annual return to the Membership Division for processing.
10. My company outsources production to a third party, but we own the product and brand name. Are we eligible for Ordinary membership? +
A company can apply for Ordinary membership if it owns the product and brand name and holds the relevant intellectual property rights. Manufacturing activities may be outsourced locally or overseas.
