MASTERING THE TAX RULES FOR EXPATRIATES & FOREIGN WORKERS
Employing expatriates and foreign workers comes with specific Malaysian tax and payroll compliance requirements that employers cannot afford to overlook. This practical programme provides a clear understanding of tax residency, employment income, employer reporting obligations, Potongan Cukai Bulanan / Monthly Tax Deduction (PCB/MTD), payroll arrangements, tax clearance and common IRB compliance risks. Through practical examples and case discussions, participants will gain the knowledge and confidence to manage foreign employee tax matters correctly, minimise compliance gaps and better prepare for Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRB/LHDN) reviews.
By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:
• Understand the Malaysian tax rules and tax treatment applicable to expatriates and foreign workers.
• Determine tax residency and apply the appropriate resident/non-resident tax treatment.
• Identify employer obligations for PCB/MTD, reporting, documentation and payroll compliance.
• Manage remuneration, benefits, allowances, overseas/shadow payroll and cessation of employment matters.
• Recognise common tax compliance risks, penalties and IRB audit issues, and apply practical measures to minimise exposure.
