FMM Webinar on Avoid Costly Tax Mistakes: Understanding Tariff Code Reclassification Under SST 2025

With the Sales Tax expansion effective July 1, 2025, many SME manufacturers in Malaysia are now required to charge 5% SST on locally manufactured goods. This change has raised concerns, particularly where Customs may reclassify goods under different tariff codes, potentially leading to unexpected tax liabilities, penalties, and disputes.

This training equips manufacturers and compliance personnel with a practical understanding of tariff code classification based on the General Interpretative Rules (GIRs) applied by Customs globally, including in Malaysia. Participants will learn step-by-step methods to classify goods accurately, understand the tax implications of different tariff codes, and gain strategies to manage Customs reclassification issues, including applying for Advance Customs Rulings, helping to minimise costly tax mistakes.

By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:

• Understand how tariff code reclassification can expose businesses to 5% sales tax risk under SST 2025

• Learn how Customs applies General Interpretative Rules (GIR) to reclassify goods

• Explore real cases of manufacturers facing unexpected tax liabilities

• Gain practical tools to audit, document, and defend tariff code classifications

• Know when and how to apply for Advance Customs Ruling

• Develop a robust compliance strategy to avoid SST-related disputes
